Originally designed as a mix of light frame wood trusses, timber accents and a partial heavy timber element, we worked with ISL Engineering to provide a complete heavy timber solution to this area of the building. We worked with the General Contractor, Architect and Engineer of Record to provide an alternative design solution within our proposed budget. The project features 6 bolt laminated timber ridges & valleys that span between 40 to 50 feet long. As well, due to restrictions on interior layout and high snow loads, we built 4 top bearing parallel cord timber trusses that span from the exterior walls to the kitchen area. This complex solution was solved with old world timber engineering using bolt laminated beams, compression wedge splices, metal tension rods and traditional wood to wood joinery.
