This letter is a short summary of our newly completed Post & Beam Log home located just outside the remote community of Nordegg, AB. We were first introduced to Tyee Log & Timber while attending the Log Home Show in the Spring of 2010 and in late 2010 started working with Tyee to come up with a customized plan. Unlike other builders Tyee worked with us to come up with both a design and estimate for our project before committing. With a general idea of the type and style we were after a number of different options for the floor plan were provided and with a few minor changes we were able to come up with the perfect use of space. In early 2011 we agreed upon a lump sum contract for the lock-up portion of the project and began fabrication of the log structure. By the end of 2011 we had the building completed to lock-up stage and moved forward on the interior finishing portion of the project on an agreed upon cost plus contract basis.

This was one of the big things that separated Tyee from other log builders was their willingness to take the home not only right up to lock up stage but to help us fully complete this home. Lots of other builders seemed willing to sell us a log shell but we really wanted a log builder who would take the project from start to finish. This is definitely one of the area’s that Tyee excelled at, they were able to help guide us along the way with the various decisions that are involved in the construction of any new home as well as manage and co-ordinate all the various sub-trades both local and out of province to ensure that I received both the best quality and pricing!

In late 2012 we completed the home but it wasn’t until 2013 that we were able to fully enjoy our new log home thanks again to the help of Tyee with four beautifully handcrafted log beds, bench and picnic table being added!

We would have no problem recommending Tyee to any of my friends, family or colleagues. The workmanship is absolutely amazing and the log work is an amazing piece of artwork that truly needs to be seen in person to appreciate all the time and efforts that go into a home like this. Invoicing and payment was simple and straight forward, what I really like about Tyee is that I was always paying for the work completed unlike a lot of other contractors who expected to be paid 50% deposits up front prior to any work being completed. Communication was excellent it seemed Tyee was always able to make time for my phone calls and emails. We would personally like to thank everyone at Tyee for all their time and effort’s that went into this magnificent home!

Over the past year Tyee Log Homes Ltd has successfully completed two construction projects for the Ministry of Environment - BC Parks, within Mount Robson Provincial Park.  Mount Robson is the second oldest Park in British Columbia's park system, in a UNESCO World Heritage site.

The first project involved the replacement of two timber bridges (1.2km & 3.1km) along the Berg Lake Trail. The bridges were replaced due to deterioration and not being able to be used by park service vehicles. The Berg lake trail remained open for the public by establishing a re-route trail around the work site. All materials where transported using the trail.

The second project involved the de-construction and reconstruction of the Hargreaves Shelter at kilometer 21 along the Berg Lake Trail. The Hargreaves Shelter was originally constructed in 1927; it is used as a day-use shelter and has significant historic and cultural heritage value. This project involved upgrades to the structure and the re-use of the historic log structure where possible. Tyee did an excellent job reusing existing logs and maintaining the visual historic appearance of the building. In addition Tyee was helpful in managing helicopter logistics by reducing the weight of materials brought into the site.

The two projects involved working in a backcountry environment, involving the logistics of moving materials and crews by the trail system or by helicopter. Tyee was responsible for all on-site construction activities, safety and environmental protection. Both projects were delivered on time and within budget.

This project consisted of 4 storey Timber Frame decks complete with timber canopies for 68 suites.

I have had many friends who had a custom home built for them by other builders, and most ended up with many regrets and hard feelings from the experience. In contrast, our experience with Tyee was very positive. The company "went above and beyond" their call of duty on many fronts. For example, they spent time to select unique logs for the building and made many design suggestions.  We are extremely satisfied with their craftsmanship, commitment to quality, and overall project management.

Building my own log cabin has always been a dream of mine. We could not have picked a better company than Tyee Log Homes to partner with. Five years into our project and we still receive full support from Rob on all topics (log or otherwise) related to my project. I did an extensive search of builders beforehand and, although I found that there were more expensive “bigger and better” companies, I concluded that Tyee provides the best customer oriented approach, is a smaller company with skilled craftsmen who care about quality of work, and are able to build works of art.
